Chapter 2 Statistical context

This chapter is intended to introduce statistical learning and hypothesis testing. We will present some state-of-the-art linear statistical methods and also a thorough introduction to splines and generalized additive models. The understanding of these methods is required to grasp the statistical concepts used in the methodology presented in Chapter 4 and 5.
